I’m working on a Middle Grade novel. For my first draft, I want to hit around 35,000 words. I decided on this number after searching the word counts of other middle grade books, like There’s a Boy in the Girls Bathroom by Louis Sachar (36, 671 words) or Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin (34, 902 words).
So far, with consistent writing this is the progression I have:
Day 1: 2583
Day 2: 4155
Day 3: 6262
Day 4: 7905
Day 5: 10166
Day 6: 10315
Day 7: 12328
Day 8: 14156
Day 9: 16258
Day 10: 18310
With an average of 1,500-2,000 per day, I could potentially write this middle grade draft in 20 days. (This is with planning and plotting.) More updates to follow!
