#Author Life-Day 18: #Teaser Tuesday

Okay so I’m only a week behind!

He’s a little teaser from my Young Adult novel, MILO, Book 1: Secrets, which is currently in the editing process:

Through the pervasive sawdust, I noticed a slight garlic odor but I couldn’t quite tell where it was coming from. The frame shop had a table in the back topped with different saws and cutting tools. While I scanned the room from ceiling to floor, soft padded footsteps came down stairs that I hadn’t noticed existed yet.

“Ciao,” the old man said once he reached the bottom.

We locked eyes. There was a familiarity that I couldn’t quite explain. Maybe his eyes reminded me of my fathers from pictures I’d seen, but then that would make sense since they were relatives.

“I’m Marciello. Call me Uncle, Marciello, or whatever you like.”

I eyed the man in front of me. Wrinkles, large nose where the bridge of his little glasses laid. He wore an apron that hung past his knees. The top of his head was slightly bald, surprising me since I imagined a lot of black hair like my own, but then again, this great uncle of mine was old.
